Malaga 2026

Malaga is one of the most visited Spain seaside cities, yet it flew below my travel radar for quite some time. Only recently i noticed there is direct Ryanair line from Brno, my city, to Malaga. So for like 30 euro and within 5 hours from door to door i was on sunny Spain coast.

Malaga city/center is not that big, yet i kinda lost myself quite a few times wandering small alleys for some cool cafe or a tapas bistro. My first apartment was very central. There was a pub just down in the building and was very lively long into the night. Love these night vibes as i usually stay late anyway, go for night drink or photo-discovery session into the streets.

Regarding "touristy" locations, i did the basics, Malaga castle - Castillo de Gibralfaro, Santa Iglesia Catedral (which is pretty majestic being inside looking up). Also visited the famous Picasso museum, not a biggest painting enthusiast, but i like Pablo Picasso in particular, his style is so unique and intriguing. I very much like how he names many of his paintings just "woman this ...", "woman that ...", with a special depiction of nudity in his own way, what a classic :-) check pics.

City is full of good places to eat and drink. But as i was in a inner center, many places felt more like a tourist trap. "Traditional" or "local" food signs and overpriced menu items for what seemed like average, usually fried, food based on plates of customers. The most i liked some small bistros with tapas or soup or something more modern like fresh poke bowl, fresh plates (BYOKO).

There are also quite a lot of coffee places for morning wake up shot. One issue though, many of them learned to add "Specialty Coffee" to their signs, but that meant only better coffee roast, not better preparation unfortunatelly. But there were some decent ones. I liked BOLO, which was just a "window" stand, but a cool people there with real interest in coffee.

I had rented a bike for a weekend, to discover more of the coastal towns around Malaga. These biking trips are always highlights on my trips, as i visit places where are little people around and enjoy the freedom go anywhere i like. I went to beach for a while, but water was quite cold still, even for me. Also drove in the Marbella direction, made some good distance. I did not go into the inland as the mountains there force you to do a lot of elevation in Malaga area.

Some other cool locations (just a list):
- La Farola de Málaga
- Jardín Botánico
- Museo Automovilístico de Málaga
